The world's leading guide to luxury..

            NEWSLETTER

Luxury, luxury, luxury - and even more "luxury". Luxury is a word much used - and abused! - throughout the travel industry. It appears whatever whichway you turn.

What is the promise/implication behind this word?

Much better men than myself have attempted to provide a definitive explanation of the word luxury. Even the Oxford dictionary definition seems woefully inadequate but the same respected tome gets surprisingly close with the verb luxuriate - "to take self indulgent pleasure".

In my experience, and no doubt yours, the star rating used by hotels is often only a guideline rather than a guarantee to what lies in store for guests. I have often luxuriated more in 4 star(even 3 star) establishments than in some much vaunted 5 star soul-less counterparts.Personally I rate impeccable yet discreet service, a warm smile, and a genuine interest in my well being and comfort, as the most important factors in providing an environment in which I can "luxuriate", but I must confess to a fondness for quality bathroom products , clean linen, spacious rooms, a nice view and a complimentary bottle of wine!!

Not wishing to appear frivolous, todays world has too many hapless souls to whom a supply of clean drinking water is a luxury whilst others in the so called "developed world" would see a bottle of Petrus as filling the bill - in more ways than one!

The well worn phrase "All things are relative" readily applies.

To this end what I have set out to deliver through the www.centenaryclub.com site - and the quarterly "Newsletter" - is reliable and acceptable recommendations where opportunities exist for you to "luxuriate" whatever your normal modus operandi of lifestyles may be.

Enjoy the luxury- whatever this spurious word may mean- and in whatever form it comes!!!

Welcome to 2017 :-

With well in excess of 700 partners now featured on our pages-and a waiting list of dozens more-our advice to visitors to the site is to use the search engine (shown top right of the page). By entering a destination country, or city you can focus your search and save yourself time. As you will realise at www.centenaryclub.com we are not booking engine but a referral site allowing you quick access to the websites of our partners. This not only allows you to get a feel for the facility you seek but also up to date information on seasonal offers and rates and affording you the opportunity to deal direct with the facility without going through an agent. There is no commission involved which often enables the facility to offer more attractive rates to you the consumer. So follow the trend of the "smart money" and book direct.

At the moment, other than better rates by booking direct,  free advice and a reliable guide to all things luxury, there are no benefits to being a www.centenaryclub.com member but plans are in the pipeline which will change this so please be patient and stay loyal.

The belief at www.centenaryclub.com is that trends are changing and the more sophisticated consumer is "wising-up" to the booking engines that have flooded the travel industry with misleading promises and offers that often insults ones intelligence. Consumers in general, and our members in particular, are more informed  and more discerning than ever before.Trust is a keynote now in many purchases and it is in this area that we will never let you down.

Food for thought :- Have you ever been sat on a long haul flight and wondered what lies beneath you. By this I mean have you thought why you are travelling several thousands of miles to a destination that offers no more -and sometimes less - than is on offer beneath you in the many wonderful countrysides over which you are flying?

I am based in UK and much of my air travel involves flying over Europe. It is difficult to conceive any other continent that has more to offer the sophisticated traveller than Europe. This is a fact that many of us, particularly us Europeans, tend to overlook. In terms of art, historic buildings, stunning landscapes, quality accommodation, cuisine, sporting traditions and facilities, culture, beaches -the list is endless and can match and often surpass attractions available throughout the globe. With this thought in mind we dedicate a  little corner of The Newsletter to :-

                               Europe

FRANCE - Hotel Le Normandy, Deauville re-opens on 29th April to welcome guests after a multi million euro re-furbishment (and is followed later in the year by Les Neiges in the fashionable winter resort of Courchevel. Both are part of the Lucienne Barriere Group. Visit www.bebarriere.com to see the various locations in France of this classy groups hotels.

We can recommend Hotel Regent Petite France & Spa www.regent-petite-france.com as a stylish and friendly boutique hotel if you are visiting the historic Strasbourg.

If you are thinking of enjoying some golf in France there are many excellent options that you can find on the www.centenaryclub.com pages in the Golf Hotels section. One of these is Chateau de Viziers (www.vigiers.com) winner of Frances Best Golf Hotel award in 2015.

Don't discount Majorca from your travel plans. This charming Balearic island may not be normally viewed by some as a luxury destination but what it lacks in "traditional" luxury facilities it more than makes up in friendliness and ambience that makes you very relaxed. Stay in the islands capital Palma at the award winning Hotel Cort (www.hotelcort.com), a chic boutique hotel with individually designed rooms. Palma is an ideal base from which to explore the island, dine at the Mhares Sea Club(www.mharesseaclub.com) or enjoy a tour around one of the islands vineyards Macia Batle( www.maciabatle.com)

SWITZERLAND - The Carlton Hotel St.Moritz(www.carlton-stmoritz.ch) continues to excel and once again walked away with the award for Switzerlands Best Hotel in the World Ski Awards for the third consecutive year.

ITALY -is a land of such beauty and style with every region having something to attract the traveller. The DueTorri Group ( www.duetorrihotels.com)boasts the Grand Hotel Majestic in Bologna -home of Ferrari Alley and has the Due Torri Hotel Verona in Verona and the Bernini Palace in Florence whilst a trip to Lake Como offers the iconic

Villa D'este(www.villadeste.com). A stay  here combined with a trip to their sister hotel Villa Massa (www.villalamassa.com) in Florence would be everyones idea of a vacation made in heaven!

We have barely scratched the surface of the many jewels the traveller will find in Europe. Perhaps as you sit back in your plane seat with a 12 hour flight ahead of you, the treasure right on your own doorstep may merit consideration when planning your next trip!
